So, the other day I was driving into work when I noticed a cute, hairy, big, dog hanging out of the window of the car in the left lane. The dog’s large ears were flapping in the wind and his tongue was hanging out of his mouth. I was so focused on this cute dog that I didn’t notice that my car was slowly drifting out of my own lane and into the lane of the car with the dog. OOPS…that got my attention back on the road, and onto my own lane. This got me to thinking how easy it is for us to get distracted in our spiritual lives as well. Let me explain. Sometimes it is so easy to put our focus on someone else that we actually veer off our own path. We fix our eyes on something fun, pretty, exciting, or even forbidden, and before we know it our own lives are derailed and we are in an atmosphere we don’t want to be in. If we’re not careful, by the time we come to our senses we are in a totally different lane. Let me encourage you. Keep your eyes fixed forward. Don’t be distracted by what you see around you. By doing this you will always stay on course and never veer out of your lane. That’s a good thing!
…but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14
