Should I Open It?

Well, Christmas and New Years is over and my house is back to normal. It felt good to take my tree and decorations down. But one thought still remains with me. The blessing of a gift! Personally I love giving gifts more than receiving them (sounds cliché’ but it’s true). I love to see the look on my grandchild’s face when they open a gift that they’ve been hinting at wanting. It brings me great joy to see their face light up and hear their squeals of delight. I give the gift freely, with no “strings” attached. I simply give because I LOVE.

This got me to thinking about the GIFT of eternal life God gives to those who claim Jesus as God’s son, Lord and Savior. There are many bible passages about eternal life but I’ll share this one:

When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him.  And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. John 17:1-3

This is a free gift. It is offered to everyone but only accepted by some. Just as you can reject a gift or return a gift you got from Christmas, it is also your decision to accept eternal life. Can you imagine not wanting this gift? I can’t.

May this new year bring many wonderful moments for you to offer this gift to those who don’t know the Lord! To God be the Glory!
